My name is Nancy Aldape and I obtained a Bachelor's in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Soon after that, I decided to apply to pharmacy school and I was fortunate to get accepted at UHCOP. Moving to Houston has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I thank my boyfriend and family members for always encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and strive for success.
CAPS is a program designed to promote active relations among SNPhA chapters. Additionally, it encourages collaboration between students from different disciplines. With the help of my co-chair, Mario Gutierrez, we hope to host joint health fairs and inter-disciplinary workshops. Through these events, students will learn how to work together and use each other’s expertise in order to provide exemplary patient care. Moreover, we will help our initiatives translate their educational materials to other languages such as Spanish and Vietnamese. By having this information available, we hope to reach a greater patient population. I am very excited for this upcoming year and I can’t wait to see the great things that we will together accomplish.
My name is Mario Gutierrez and I was born and raised here in Houston, came to UH for undergrad and now find myself here at the UH College of Pharmacy. School is my main priority but I love to watch movies and lift in my free time.
"Chapter Achievement Partners" or CAPs to me is all about collaboration. Through this position and with the help of my fellow CAPs coordinator, I hope to increase collaboration in three ways. First being between SNPhA chapters within the region. Second, within the chapter since there are plenty of opportunities for initiatives to collaborate. And lastly, collaboration between different healthcare professions. As future pharmacists, we will not just be working with other pharmacists but with many other professionals and developing interdisciplinary skills early is critical.
