CKD Certification (093019)
On September 30th, the Project Keepsake Initiative kicked off a hectic week with their bi-annual Kidney Health Coach Certification! The Kidney Health Coach program is an initiative launched by the American Kidney Fund to promote basic education about chronic kidney disease in the community. During the certification program, the Project Keepsake co-chairs went over CKD etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and prevention strategies. These tools from the certification program will make a monumental difference in the community. Empathy Seminar (092519)
SNPhA's Cancer initiatives held "Empathy Seminar" on 09/25/19. They had Ms.Rosen Allison who is a colon cancer survivor as the guest speaker for the event. Diabetes Seminar (092319)
On Monday, September 23rd the Fighting Diabetes Initiative of SNPhA hosted a Diabetes seminar. During this seminar they had guest speaker Dr. Damien Fisher speak to members on the chronic disease of diabetes, how to properly educate patients at health fairs on diabetes, and the use of various insulin devices. The week prior to the event they had two SNPhA officers, Julie Nguyen and Idris Yusuf, undergo a “Week in the Life of a Diabetic Patient.” At the seminar the two SNPhA officers spoke of their difficult experiences with the disease and how important it is for us as future pharmacists to empathize with our patients. #UHSNPHA #PassionThroughAction #SNPhA #SNPhARegion4 #Region4WeServeMore #SNPhA2020Vision
Shifa Flu Clinic (091319)
On September 13, 2019, SNPhA collaborated with PhAMSA, to provide blood glucose and blood pressure screenings as well as immunizations under CVS and Walgreens. We were also able to educate on several different topics to the community at Bear Creek Mosque/Shifa Clinic. QPR Training (091119)
On September 11, 2019 SNPhA’s Mental Health Initiative chairs hosted their annual QPR Training seminar with University of Houston Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). QPR, which stands for Question, Persuade, Refer, is a nationally recognized suicide prevention program that educates people on how to recognize and respond to the signs of suicidal thinking or behavior. This was a great way to bring awareness to suicide prevention during National Suicide Prevention Week!
