SNPhA does tabling, Visits Omega House, and Garden Terrace

Teaching UH Pharmacy students how to become CKD educators

Two CKD members led a session to help fellow students become certified as kidney health educators through the American Kidney Fund. First, members presented background on the American Kidney Fund such as how it was founded and what services they currently provide. CKD members also provided a brief overview of chronic kidney disease before the students proceeded with the certification modules. CKD helped students register with the American Kidney Fund as well as answered questions they had while they completed the course. 

 

 

UHSNPhA HIV/ AIDS committee visits Omega House

Initiative members visited Omega house Friday, 11/10 where they were able to help out around the house by doing dishes and washing clothes. A local church group also brought food donations and students helped them move the bags of donations inside the house. Students also helped put the donations items into storage. There were two patients present on Friday. The HIV/AIDS initiatves were able to interact with them and see how their week was going as well as serve them dinner for the evening. 

 

UHSNPhA Mental Health Visits Garden Terrace During Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, 11/11 UH SNPhA helped to organize and assist in moving the residents at Garden Terrace to the lobby for them to enjoy the musical show set up by the facility activities coordinators. UHSNPhA chairs also passed out gifts and awards for each of the veterans present at Garden Terrace.

UHSNPHA 19th Alumni Dinner

UH SNPhA had a fantastic time at the annual Alumni Dinner held at the UC Ballroom this past Friday. Unforgettable speeches were heard by President Darian Allen, past president Sara Mirjamali, Chapter Advisor Dr. Louis Williams, Alumni Key Note Speaker Dr. Leshawn Wyatt, Faculty Representative Dr. Eikenburg, among many others. Thank you to our MCs Andre Obimah, and Kherto Mohamed for facilitating the event, as well as Jovan Dudley for providing meal blessings. Additional thanks to the Alumni who attended the dinner: Dr. Omar and Dr. Elizabeth Sern, Dr. David Pham, Dr. Boxin Allen Xu, Dr. Amin Esmaily-Fard, Dr. La Tosha Mitchell, Dr. Carolyn Williams, Dr. Winfield Jones, Dr. Danny Jean, Dr. Anthony Dima-Ala, and many others. SNPhA members Ana Duong, Daniel Nguyen, Kim Dinh, Philip Ngo, and Tailynn Dinh, were recognized for their outstanding work in their respective initiatives, and CVS, Walgreens and HEB were aditionally thanked for their help sponsoring the event. Extra thanks goes to Hung Nguyen who took the fantastic pictures for the event and thte alumni dinner coordinators, Nancy Khong, Aminat Tijani, and Luan Truong, Sabrina Ali, and Nhan Dao for assisting in the event

SNPHA participates in Pharmacy Extravaganza Along APhA to Educate UH Students on Various Initiatives

UH SNPhA, in collaboration with APhA participated in the annual Pharmacy Extravaganza, a day where UHCOP students educate University Of Houston students about various health concerns. Smoking Cessation, Chronic Kidney Disease, Power To End Stroke Diabetes, and Mental Health all participated in the event impacting several students on campus.

UHSNPhA collaborates with KY to take part in first large interprofessional health fair

UH SNPhA in collaboration with KY attended Health Fairs at Lakewood Church and Genesis Baptist Church this past weekend In collaboration with representatives from National Interventional Radiology Partners, HEB, Walgreens, and UH College of Optometry to provide Blood Glucose, Cholesterol, Blood pressure, Vision, Dental and Peripheral Artery Disease Screenings, impacting over 300 patients. Thank you to Dr. Joyce Thomas and Dr. Damien Fisher for helping us out at Genesis Baptist Church and Dr. Jasmine Dorn, Dr. Katie Smith, and Dr. Tran Hoang for helping us out at Lakewood Church this past weekend!
