ONCOLOGY SEMINAR
Event coordinators: Cancer Chairs Amanda Gee and Kimberly Nebo
On October 24, SNPhA & SSHP held a collaborative seminar about Oncology: A Pharmacist's Role in the Hospital and the Community. There were speakers from both MD Anderson and Baylor College of Medicine. The first set of speakers were PGY-2 Oncology residents who talked about signs and symptoms of cancer, certain screening procedures, and went over a day in the life of a resident. The cancer outreach team from Baylor College of Medicine talked about their BodyGuards program and how to get more involved in the community as student pharmacists through cancer education and outreach events. This collaborative event was designed to show the different settings that student pharmacists can help with cancer education, outreach and awareness.

BENEKE ELEMENTARY HEALTH FAIR
Event coordinators: Community Outreach Chairs Heba Almasri and Alan Luu
This Saturday morning, UH SNPhA and UT SNDA members visited Beneke Elementary to participate in their Fall Festival Health Fair. Parents and faculty members were able to receive blood pressure and blood glucose screenings and learn about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The young students got to test their knowledge on nutrition through an interactive game and also got the chance to practice their flossing technique and learn about the importance of oral hygiene. The pharmacy and dental students loved being able to build a connection with this Houston community!
