TARGET 2nd ANNUAL HEALTH FAIR
"THE POWER TO STIR UP, MOTIVATE, & ENCOURAGE CHANGE"
Lilly Grove Health Fair
When: Saturday, April 21 @ 9AM-2PM
Where: Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church
SNPhA is organizing a community-wide health fair sponsored by Target on April 21 from 9AM to 2PM. The location will be at Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church (Wendell Neal Memorial Family Life Center) (3505 Alice St, Houston, TX 77021). This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in blood pressure readings, glucose screenings, and to get involved with adult population in Houston. No prior experience is needed to be a part of this health fair.
This is a perfect opportunity to gain valuable experience and make a lasting impact in the community.
To make this a successful event, we need volunteers on the day of health fair, and volunteers for the 3 committees involved with planning. The committees are Community Outreach, Advertising/Marketing, and Donations.

Announcements! 2/27/12

SNPhA/NCPA Alzheimer's Awareness - Bake Sale Fundraiser When: Monday, March 5th (11am-1pm) Where: UH Satellite
Come join SNPhA and NCPA present information about Alzheimer's Disease at the UH PGH Breezeway. Alzheimer’s is the sixth-leading cause of death in the country and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed. In addition to raising awareness, we will be raising money for the Alzheimer's Association by selling home-made baked goodies!

We are asking your help to volunteer during the event and also for your donations. Please have your baked goods individually wrapped. If you can, we would like you to incorporate the color purple into your cookies, cupcakes, etc to keep with the theme color of the Alzheimer's Association. If you cannot, that is absolutely okay too! :)

IMMUNIZATIONS

Meningitis awareness tabling event
When: Monday, February 27, 2012 @ 12-1pm
Where: UC Satellite
We will be educating students about bacterial meningitis, causes of meningitis, signs,symptoms and complications that can result, treatment options and how we can prevent this deadly disease  This will be a good learning opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning more about bacterial meningitis and its impact on our young adults today.  Join us in spreading awareness about bacterial meningitis and the importance of meningococcal vaccines!!
If you are interested in helping out, we will go over important patient counseling points with you, so  you will be well prepared to counsel.  Please wear business casual with white coats.

Omega House Hospice Home
When: Now!!

Join us in making a difference! Omega House is a hospice home providing residential care to persons with HIV/AIDS at their terminal stage. Omega House’s main goal is to provide a safe and loving home environment where people with HIV can live their final days with dignity and in peace. Our eight-bed facility offers medical supervision, nursing care, pain and symptom management as well as emotional support and assistance with daily activities.

Upcoming Events:

SNPhA BAKE SALE

When: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 @ 9:00AM-2:00PM Where: PGH Breezeway

Please come out to SNPhA's Bake Sale at the PGH Breezeway on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. We will be selling a myriad of treats such as cookies, brownies, cake pops, and more!!

Volunteers will be needed for five shifts- 9:00AM to 10:00PM, 10:00AM to 11:00AM, 11:00AM to 12:00PM, 12:00PM to 1:00PM, and 1:00PM to 2:00PM.

We need P1 students to cover the morning shifts and P2 students to cover the afternoon shifts! Pre-pharmacy students are needed whenever they're available!

CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

Blood Pressure Screening and Education Tabling

When: Wednesday, February 22, 2012 @ 12-1 pm

Where: UC Satellite

Want to practice taking blood pressure? Want to learn about CKD? Want the chance to teach others about something they probably know nothing about? Then, this event is for you! This is a campus event coming up on Wednesday, February 22nd at the UC Satellite. We will be educating others about CKD and performing blood pressure screenings. If you'd like to help out, please meet up at the tables set up in the satellite dressed in business casual with white coat (for pharmacy students) or business casual (for pre-pharmacy students).
